Apple Picking

Over on Facebook I shared a few sneak-peek photos of our weekend apple picking trip at Deardroff Orchards in Waconia.

We had absolutely stunning weather and enjoyed a wonderful couple of hours on the Deardoff Farm.

Of course, our morning started with a sampling of their doughnuts & apple cider.  Yum.

We enjoyed a wagon ride out to the orchards from Mr. Deardorff himself!

Have gave us the lay of the land, and told us the history of Minnesota’s newest apple, Sweet Tango, and why it isn’t available to pick.  We headed into the groves of trees, starting first with our favorite MN-developed apple, the Honey Crisp!

We came home with a peck of apples – regant, fireside, haralson, and of course, honey crisp.

The fall colors were just starting to appear in the trees, and we had an absolutely wonderful time celebrating my sister’s 24th birthday! {which just happens to be today… Happy Birthday, Little One!}

We checked out their fun animals and enjoyed a nice view of parley lake with the family.

On our way out, we snagged a copy of Mrs. Deardorff’s apple crisp.  Although we haven’t made it yet with their apples, we do intend to this weekend!

We had a great time at the orchard… and are excited to use our apples!  There’s something special about knowing where your food comes from and taking in a chance to pick the apples yourself.

Note: This post is not affiliated with Deardorff Orchard in any way – we just went apple picking over the weekend and had a fantastic time and wanted to share the experience with you!

  1. How fun! I wish we could go apple picking together, friend! I'm going to try and make it out this weekend for some...it has just been so rainy here lately!

    Can't wait to see that recipe for apple crisp!

  2. Now that looks like a wonderful day! We wanted an apple picking experience, but there are not any apples to speak of here. I was able to hot glue a bag of store bought apples onto a tree for the grandkids, though. Not quite the same, but at least they got to pick apples.

  5. What a terrific way to spend time together! I love cooking and baking with apples; I don't have an apple orchard close by to pick my own.

    Thanks for visiting me at A Season for All Things. I'm your newest follower and look forward to reading more terrific posts!
