Apple Cinnamon Bars

We have some apples around that needed to get eaten... and this was a delicious way to use up apples that no longer have that crunch to them.

You know you have a few in your fridge too... right?  Pull them out, whip up a batch of these bars and enjoy a warm slice -- perfect with homemade vanilla ice cream, if you wish :)

Apple Cinnamon Bars - Adapted from Eat at Home
{Print Recipe}

4 T butter, melted
4 T applesauce
3/4 C sugar
1 egg
2 medium apples, chopped
1 C white whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 T cinnamon

Peel and dice the apple into small pieces.

Combine the melted butter, egg and sugar together in a large bowl.  Then, stir in the apples.

Sift together the flour, cinnamon, salt, soda and powder.

Incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry ones; stir until moist.

Pour batter into a lightly greased 9x9 glass baking dish.

Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes, until lightly browned and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Enjoy!

  1. I have been so happy this year to discover that I can make pies, cobblers, muffins with whole wheat flour and they actually taste better than with white! So wholesome, less guilt. :) Thanks for sharing!

  2. Yes, I had some apples that needed to be used, so, since my oven was warm, I made these. They were yummy. The recipe you posted did not post the amount of sugar but I figured it out by the link you provided from Eat At Home. Very yummy! Just had one fresh out of the oven!
