There is nothing like a bowl full of my dad's popcorn.
It makes a perfect after school snack, lunch-time treat, or dessert. Or sometimes, dinner.

Papa's Popcorn
{Full batch}
1/2 C popcorn
1 T olive oil*
1 T Orville Redenbacher popcorn oil*
{Small batch}
2 T popcorn
1 tsp olive oil*
1 tsp Orville Redenbacher popcorn oil*
Carefully pour the oils into the popcorn popper. Tilt the popper so as to spread the oil out over the bottom of the popper.
Next, add the popcorn kernels.
Place the popper on a warm burner and stir using the handle on the popper. Stir continuously until the popcorn stops popping, or the handle becomes difficult to turn (about 3-5 minutes).
Immediately {this is key -- the popcorn still needs to be hot at this point}, salt using popcorn salt. Trust me on this one, get yourself some popcorn salt. It's well worth it.
Enjoy!
*After making a few times, feel free to reduce the amount of oil. I've been successful in making a full batch with only 1 T oil (combo of both)

mmm... it is 9 AM but i could do some popcorn right now!
ReplyDeleteDo you know what brand of popcorn your dad uses? I've been looking for one that pops up big and mushroomy like what you have pictured.
ReplyDeleteLove you bringing your dad in to demonstrate his masterpiece :). I NEVER think to buy popcorn salt, duh!
ReplyDeleteWe have that same popper and use it almost every night. Love it! Will have to look for some popcorn salt though :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh. I can't tell you how many people I've had to explain popcorn to over the years. It's shocking how many people don't realize you can make it without a microwave! :)
