Goulash

Mom's goulash.
Comfort food at it's finest.

Mom's Goulash - Finding Joy in My Kitchen
{Print Recipe}

1/2 lb. ground beef
2 T minced onion
2 T minced garlic
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 can diced tomatoes, undrained
~1/2 C tomato sauce
1/2 C ketchup
1/4 C BBQ sauce {we used cherry BBQ sauce}
1 pkg. tri colored pasta

Begin by boiling the pasta according to package directions. Drain pasta when done.

Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a large skillet. Season with salt and pepper while browning. Drain excess grease.

Then, add diced tomatoes, parsley and minced onion to the ground beef.

Stir in the tomato sauce and mushrooms. Simmer for 10-ish minutes.

Then, add in the BBQ sauce and ketchup.

Finally, stir in pasta.

Serve warm.

The beauty of this recipe, is that it's a "dump" recipe.  If you want more zip, use a spicier BBQ sauce.  Do you like it sweeter?  Add more ketchup, or a little brown sugar.  Don't like tri-colored pasta, use macaroni!  It's flexible -- try it out to find what you like.

  1. It always amazes me why people feel the need to buy Hamburger Helper when it is just as easy to make similar dishes this way! Change of spices, use a white sauce instead of tomatoes, add cheese or whatever.

  2. Love it. My Grandma has a similar recipe for goulash that I have always loved.

  3. I never knew what goulash was until right now. The word never sounded very appetizing to me. Your pictures/post indicate otherwise. This has everything I love.
