Kitchen Tip: Keeping Apples from Browning

This weekend, I had the awesome pleasure of cooking up nearly 30 pounds of apples with my mom!

We took advantage of the early apple crop here (Paula Red Apples) which are excellent for yummy fall favs like Spiced County Applesauce and Apple Pockets

We decided to peel most of the apples first, and then make our goodies.

My mom said she learned a tip from her mother about working with apples.

To keep the apples from browning
during the slicing process,
place apples in a bowl of salt water.

Just toss those apples in the salt water and allow them to sit while you slice the other apples.

Of course, before you use said apples, you’ll want to rinse them well to remove the salt water.

But, it works like a charm.
