Yesterday was all about the turkey, but the side dishes are even better.
We will start with my favorite side dish: Wild Rice Stuffing. Using whole wheat bread, wild rice, mushrooms, celery and onions, this stuffing is a filling and hearty side dish that is excellent by itself and topped with gravy.
Sweet Potato Casserole is another winner for me. Fluffy sweet potatoes with oatmeal topping; these are good for dessert too. Or breakfast.
The meal would not be complete without green bean casserole! Do your self a favor and use fresh or frozen green beans rather than canned and make your own cream of mushroom soup.
Butternut squash might be a traditional Thanksgiving side dish, but we prefer acorn squash. Better yet, combine the two and have the squash ready in the crockpot.
Finally, we have to have Grandma’s Mashed Potatoes on the table for the meal, and for leftover donuts the next day.
And, for dinner rolls, these soft whole wheat rolls are the best and will certainly be making an appearance.
Do you have favorite side dishes?
