Anise Cookies

Frog Prince's family tradition has been making Anise cookies! He introduced me to them and I love them -- they have quickly become a tradition for us as well.

Anise Cookies - Frog Prince's Family

Cookies
2/3 C shortening (or butter)
3/4 C sugar
1 egg
2 C flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
4 tsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. anise

Cream together sugar and butter. Add egg and beat until light a fluffy. Add vanilla and anise.

Combine dry ingredients and mix well. Then, add dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Add milk.

Refrigerate dough for a little while until dough is pliable enough to roll out on a lightly floured surface.

Roll out dough and cut out cookies, placing them on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake cookies at 350 for 8 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Frosting
Powdered sugar
Butter
Anise
Milk

Combine ingredients together until you have a frosting to your liking. Decorate as desired.

Note: 2 batches make about 4 dozen cookies and uses a whole bottle (small size) of anise.
