Cinnamon Raisin Bread

This is the first in a series.... From My Mom's Kitchen!

My mom has taught me everything I know about cooking... well, almost.  But, she did instill in me a desire to cook frugally, healthily and with ingredients we already have on hand.  If you're nice to her, my mom might even write a guest post later this week!

When I was in middle school, my mom got a bread maker.

Our favorite breakfast bread was this delicious cinnamon raisin bread.

Yum.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread- Mom

3 1/4 C bread flour
2 tsp. salt
2 T dry milk
2 T butter
3 T sugar
3/4 C raisins
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
10 1/2 oz. water
1 1/2 tsp. yeast

Place all ingredients in your bread maker as listed by your manufacturer... except... add the raisins right away!  Your bread machine directions will tell you to add them later -- don't listen to them, listen to my mom.  She adds them right away.  This way they get all chopped up and add yummy raisin flavor throughout the bread.  The bread stays extra moist due to this too.

Bake according to directions (do not use the rapid cycle).

Allow to cool a bit before slicing -- if you can resist.

Stay tuned for a yummy french toast with this bread :)

  1. I have been craving cinnamon raisin bread like crazy lately (and I don't even LIKE raisins). I know what you're thinking - don't even say it!

I am going to get E to pick up some raisins so I can make this tonight.

Thanks, Mom! Can't wait to see what else you have to share from her. And I would LOVE to read a guest post by her.

Our moms are truly inspiring women, aren't they?

  6. I would love to read your mom's guest post!

One question, though. I don't have a breadmaker. Any ideas for how to adapt this to a traditional oven? It looks delicious!

  7. Yum! This looks delicious. I have been loving my new bread maker, so I am definitely going to try this one out!

I would love to read a post by your sweet mom, too. Could you ask her if she thinks the bread would taste the same with golden raisins? That's all we usually have on hand. :)

  8. Now where was this recipe when I was looking for it previously? I might bust out my breadmaker to try this out... I've been doing bread by hand but I can't put forth the effort to do a breakfast bread... thanks for this!

  9. I have a question about baking bread in a bread machine. I can't get it to turn out right. It always seems too dense or the crust is too hard. I usually bake on the lightest setting and even have stopped the bread early. Do you have any suggestions or tricks? Lately, I have just been putting it on dough cycle and baking it in the oven. This seems to work well, but definitely not as convenient.

  12. Cinnamon raisins is one of my favorite types of bread (much like cinnamon raisin bagels are my favorite bagel). Thanks so much for this recipe! And what an awesome tribute to your mom. You are such a good daughter.

  15. Yum! Could you also ask Mom what size loaf her bread machine makes so I'll know what to use for this recipe? Mine has the 1, 1 1/2 or 2 lb options and I'm thinking maybe the 1 1/2 lb.??? Thanks!!

  22. Do you measure your water in ounces? I'm curious. My Mom got a new bread machine and I know she wants to make cinnamon raisin bread. But I'm not sure she would know how much water 10 1/2 ounces is? I'm thinking 10 ounces is 1 1/4 cup. Should she use more than that?

    Thank you!

Love your blog! Its one of the first I check every day!

    1. Yes -- most liquid measuring cups has ounces on them as well cups. 10.5 oz is just over 1 1/4 C. Enjoy the bread!
