Do you have an olive oil sprayer like a Misto at your house? I’ve had ours for about a year now, and up until July, it had been working quite well.
Then, it started spraying a stream of olive oil. Which, to me was still better than an aerosol-filled spray.
But, it wasn’t the spray my Misto had delivered before.
Thus, we embarked on a clean –a detox if you will, for your Misto.
And, I’m happy to report, our Misto has a nice fine mist of olive oil now!
You will need:
1/3 C vinegar
3/4 C hot water + more hot water (divided)
1 squirt of dish soap
To clean, follow these simple steps:
- Dump out any remaining oil in your Misto.
- Pour in 1/3 C vinegar.
- Spray away until you’ve passed all 1/3 C of that vinegar through the Misto. This helps break up the oil.
- Place one squirt of dish soap into 3/4 C hot water. No need to mix, just squirt it in.
- Pour the soap/water mix into the Misto & spray away.
- Rinse with hot water.
- Pour in more hot water and continue spraying until the stream is clear and there is no more soap.
- Rinse.
- Set the pieces out to dry.
When dry, refill and use as directed.
Do you have a Misto or other oil spraying product? How do you like it?

Mine just started spraying a steady stream - I definitely need to clean it. You are a lifesaver!
ReplyDeleteMine definitely needs to be cleaned - thanks for posting how you did that! I've had it for a few years and do like it...but I kind of forget about it. I should give it a thorough cleaning and start using it more.
ReplyDeleteDon't have one...yet, but would love to get one so thanks for the tip!

Thank you so much -- my Misto got left in a box out in our shed, and it STINKS from the rancid olive oil that was in it. Hopefully, this will fix the problem. I do like the Misto, especially since now I'm trying to avoid "frankenfoods".
ReplyDeleteFunny, mine started acting up in July also. I fake cleaned it and it helped but it's definitely not the same anymore. I'll have to try your method. Here's hoping because I miss how it used to work!
ReplyDeleteI hope it works well for you!
DeleteMine has not worked well since I bought it. I am going to use your tip to see if it helps.
ReplyDeleteI hope it helps!!
DeleteThanks so much for sharing! I recently tried cleaning mine like I clean everything else and didn't have much success. This will be helpful!
ReplyDeleteWe did too - we tried water & soap, etc., before, but this time it really worked!
DeleteThis tip helped me too - at the end of each use, turn it upside down (I aim into the garbage can) and spray to discharge any pressure.
